Alex was born with Stargardt disease, a genetic eye disorder that causes progressive vision loss. Though he became almost completely blind in his 20s (he’s now 43 years old) he can make out Instagram and other images – including his results from the photo club he belongs to – on a very large TV screen at his home. Alex has been physically active his whole life; he currently plays adaptive baseball weekly, and he has a black belt in martial arts. He’s very fit, and he’s got a pretty good idea he’s good-looking… he says he’s always been popular with the girls.
